Mangalore: Officials Seize 800 kg of Banned Plastic

Mangalore, Feb 16: Continuing with their war against use of banned plastic items, officials of the city corporation here seized 800 kg of banned plastic from various spots on Wednesday February 15. The raiding team was led by environment engineer of the corporation, Manjunath.
Raids for checking presence of plastic items which did not conform to the thickness requirement stipulated by the city corporation were conducted on Plastic World, Plastic House, Meenakshi Plastics, etc. Inspectors in city corporation’s department of health, Santosh, Karanukar, Sushant, and supervisor, Raja, comprised the raiding party.
Plastic bags of inferior quality were also found to have been loaded onto an abandoned two wheeler in front of a stall. The owner of the vehicle is suspected to have run away, after observing that a team of officials was checking for these items. The officials, who seized the plastic bags and were told by locals that the vehicle belongs to a salesman engaged in supplying plastic bags to shops, noted down the registration number of the vehicle.
The officials suspect that these plastic bags were supplied by units located in Bykampady Industrial Area, Bangalore, Mumbai, Daman, etc.
