Chikmagalur Resounds with Mandd Sobhann's 'Baila' Event

Chikmagalur, Feb 15: Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur - Hassan organized 'Baila Show' staged by Mandd Sobhann, at Chikmagalur Catholic Centre (CCC) lawns recently. It was organized in aid of poor students' fund.
Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur - Hassan president Cyril Rebello presided over the stage programme.
State Coffee Board member Philip Saldanha and Konkani activist and philanthropist Metilda D'Silva were the chief guests on the occasion.
Infant Jesus Shrine superior Fr Valerian and Sakleshpur parish priest Fr Vincent were the guests of honour.
Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur - Hassan secretary Eddy Pinto and treasurer Joachim D'Souza were present on the dais.
The dignitaries felicitated Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario for his lifetime contributions to Konkani during the programme.
Ozario, in his acknowledgement, stressed the need for Holy Masses that have to be celebrated in Konkani in Malnad region which is a justified demand by a large number of the Konkani-speaking community. The liturgical service in Konkani will strengthen the movement for its sustenance that has been the key objective of Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan. He hailed it as a legitimate right.
Cyril Rebello, in his presidential address, explained the history of Konkani in Malnad and the path trodden by Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur-Hassan that has 15 units with 5,000 members. Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan aims to support the Konkani students who aspire for higher education through education fund. He urged the community to join in the struggle for fulfilling the demand for a Konkani liturgical service on Sundays and also during Monti Fest.
Konkani Rakaan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur-Hassan secretary Edwyn welcomed the gathering. Joint secretary Geetha Dias proposed the vote of thanks. Vice-president Alwyn D'Souza compered the programme.
Over 2,000 people were present during the Baila Show that mesmerized the Konkani music buffs, who were served Mangalorean traditional food on the occasion.
