Mangalore, Feb 15: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Spokesperson V S Ugrappa on Tuesday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari had put pressure on senior counsel, former advocate general B V Acharya to soften his stand in the wealth case against Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa, which is before a special court in Bangalore, and thereby an unsuccessful attempt was made to bring him down from the post of special public prosecutor.
Addressing the reporters at district Congress office here on Tuesday February 14, he said that the BJP which raised a strong voice against 2G among other scams is now striving to defend Jayalalithaa as she had allied with the NDA. Ugrappa added that the whole episode requires a CBI investigation.
The Bharatiya Janatha Party speaks about moral and values, but contrary to its stand, the leaders are defending scandalous members “Though the Lokayukta report stated that a total of Rs 20,000 cr loss occurred to the state government treasury, no action has been initiated for seven months now. But the government is trying to weaken the Lokayukta institution. The state government must hand over the entire mining scam to the CBI,” he added.
Coming down heavily on rave-like party at St Mary’s Island, Ugrappa said that it was claimed that the event was held for the development of tourism in coastal districts of Karnataka but though tourism is advanced in Kerala no such illegal activities are conducted.
