Bangalore, Feb 13: The trio of three BJP ministers, who had quit their ministerial berths in the D V Sadananda Gowda cabinet after being caught red-handed while watching porn blue films on their mobile handsets in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, have sought a week’s time for giving their replies to the show-cause notices served by the Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah.
The three ex-ministers – Laxman Savadi, Krishna Palemar and C C Patil – had been asked by the Speaker to furnish their replies to the show-cause notices by Monday, February 13.
While the resignations submitted by the three former ministers to the Chief Minister were immediately accepted and forwarded to the State Governor H R Bhardhwaj for acceptance, the Speaker had also placed the trio under suspension till March 12 along with issuing the show-cause notices.
The Speaker had also announced his decision of constituting a 7-member House Panel to probe into the issue and had asked the panel to submit its report by March 12 for taking further action. The report would be tabled in the Legislative Assembly, the official said.
The Opposition Congress and JD(S) members have been demanding that the threesome must be disqualified for their unparliamentary and uncivilized conduct on the floor of the Legislature, which was unprecedented in the country’s parliamentary history.
Official sources in the State Assembly Secretariat said the three ex-ministers had not furnished their replies and had sought a week’s time to give the explanations.
The Speaker, who was not in the City, is expected to arrive in Bangalore on Tuesday and take a decision on pleas made by three members, an official said.
The Speaker has issued show-cause notices to three MLAs of the ruling party to ensure that the accused get principles of natural justice.
