Bantwal, Feb 11: In an operation conducted on Friday February 10, Dakshina Kannada district Lokayukta police arrested T N Narayana Rao, tahsildar of Bantwal, on charges of receiving illegal gratification for providing departmental services. It is said that the tahsildar accepted bribe for altering name in the gun licence of a person.
The raid was conducted on Friday February 10 evening, on the basis of a complaint made by Satish Prabhu, a resident of Kolnad village, who had sought modification in the name cited in the gun licence, for which the official reportedly demanded bribe. During the raid, the Lokayukta personnel also found Rs 85,000 in cash in the table drawer of the tahsildar, which was unaccounted for.
In the history of the taluk, a tahsildar level officer of the revenue department is being trapped by Lokayukta for the second time, the only other being trapping of a former tahsildar, Sridhar Subraya Achar, by the Lokayukta officials a few years back.
Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police, Sadanand Varnekar, inspectors, Dilip Kumar and Uday Nayak, led a raiding party.
