Earlier report
Around 50 students of St Joseph's Higher Primary School, Kankanady, have been taken ill after they consumed lunch, here on Thursday February 9.
The students have been admitted to Father Muller Hospital, and according to sources, more are being taken for treatment.
The mid-day meal for the school's students is prepared on a daily basis by a lady from Jeppu, who also caters to several others schools in the city. Though she prepared food for the entire school, only a particular section of the students fell ill.
Sources stated that it was the sambar served at lunch that led to the food poisoning.
About 200 students had taken lunch, and about 50 of them are already hospitalised. The total number of students who have fallen sick is yet to be ascertained.
Parents rushed to the school and to the hospital as soon as the news broke.
