Beltangady: After Hot Chase, Policemen Nab Eight Chain Snatchers

Beltangady, Feb 9: The policemen of Venoor station, who showed rare grit and determination in chasing chain snatchers, succeeded in arresting eight of them on Wednesday February 8.
The names of the arrested persons are, Sheena alias Sheenappa (24) from Gadag, Somanna alias Shamanna (48) from Gadag, Savita Bajantri (23) from Gadag Betageri, Bhagya Bajantri (30) from Gadag, Geeta Muttugar (22) from Gadag Begageri, Usha Bajantri (22) from Bijapur Gandhinagar, Ratna Bajantri (35) from Gadag Begageri, and Renuka Bajantri (25) from Betageri.
The gang had rounded up three women in a secluded place at Karimar near Venoor, before snatching away their bag. When the gang tried to relieve the women of the Karimani chains worn around their necks, they raised an alarm, after which people from nearby areas rushed to the spot.
The information was passed on to Venoor police, who came on the scene. They could arrest three of the thieves from near the spot. The others fled from the area. The police team chased the thieves and arrested them from Moodigere.
The police recovered a mobile phone and Rs 8,500 in cash from the gang. One of the chain snatchers from the gang succeeded in giving the police a slip. The police said they have been trying to arrest him.
