Udupi, Feb 9: “Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (JSKPPS) will file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the High Court against Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) over the environmental issue,” said JSKPPS founder Tonse Jayasrikrishna Shetty.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday February 8, Shetty said that although UPCL power plant is generating electricity, it has been causing great hardship to locals. “The state administration has not responded to the woes of local farmers and Swami Vishwavallabateerta’s supporting the farmers in their struggle,” added Shetty.
“JSKPPS does not want UPCL to shut down its power plant. There is a political motive working in favour of UPCL, and not addressing the environmental grievances of the pasant fraternity. JSKPPS will file a PIL case against UPCL to address the grievances of local peasants,” added Shetty.
Lawyer Sripati Achar and Surendra Mendon were present at the press meet.
