Udupi, Feb 8: Former union minister and veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary held a press conference on Tuesday February 7, over the rave party held during the International Festival at St Mary’s Island, Malpe, recently.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, Poojary said that St Mary’s Island is worthy of being a national heritage spot and was handed over to the tourism department to develop as a major tourism hub.
“The rave party was attended by about 400 Western tourists among 6,000 people and has indeed tarnished the image of Indian culture. Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, in a public statement, announces state support for organizing the ‘International Festival’ to substantiate foreign income,” said Poojary.
He sought an explanation from the district administration, as to why the tourists were allowed at the venue without proper checks for drugs after 6.00 pm, as it was recently done during a similar event held in Madikeri.
