Beltangady, Feb 7: Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) leader, Ashok Singhal, termed the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill-2011, an ambitious initiative of the union government, as detrimental to Hindu society as whole. He said that the advisory board of VHP is drawing up strategies to fight against this bill.
Singhal was speaking to press persons during his visit to Dharmasthala on Monday February 6 night. He revealed that a meeting of various religious leaders and Swamijis including Pejavar Swamiji, had been held at New Delhi during November, 2011, to oppose the above bill.
“Hindu society is being targetted by various forces at many places in the country. As if this is not enough, the government wants to enforce a bill which is again harmful for Hindus. We treat it a challenge to stop this bill from becoming an act,” he explained.
About the construction of Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya, he said there is no doubt that a temple should be built there. “While no MP is opposing this proposal, the entire parliament should support this proposal in unison. Only then it will become a reality,” he felt.
Singhal hailed Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, as a person who has brought social revolution, backed by social concern. While confessing that Heggade does not get involved with any agitations or movements, he said he had come here merely for sharing Heggade’s rich experience by way of guidance in matters like social reforms and such other things.
On his arrival at Sannidhi Guest House in Dharmasthala from Mangalore airport, Singhal was received on behalf of the temple. At night, he held consultations with Dr Veerendra Heggade. On this occasion, Heggade handed over to him the Prasadam of Lord Manjunatha Swamy.
On account of Singhal’s visit, security at the temple town had been beefed up. D Surendra Kumar, D Harshendra Kumar, VHP Dakshina Kannada district president, M B Puranik, Bajrang Dal state convener, Sooryanarayana, Mangalore division convener, Sharan Pumpwell, and others were present.
Singhal plans to visit Udupi, and hold talks with Pejavar Swamiji, on Tuesday before returning.
