Bhatkal: Trouble Erupts Near Honnavar After Boy Dies in Accident

Bhatkal, Feb 4: Trouble erupted near Honnavar on Friday February 3 evening following an accident in which an 8-year-old boy was killed on the spot.

Abdulla, son of Hasan, was a student of third standard at Marthoma School here. He was killed when a Bolero car hit him when he was crossing the road after getting down from the school bus. The driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

The accident occured at Valki, about 50 km away from Honnavar, at around 6 pm.

Angered by the incident, residents of Honnavar launched a protest demanding immediate arrest of the driver and damaged the Bolero. They also pelted stones and attacked the police who had arrived at the spot.

The police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Several police personnel and individuals were injured in the stone-pelting.

The traffic on Honnavar-Bangalore stretch was choked for around two hours following the incident.

Bhatkal DYSP M Narayan appealed to the mob to maintain calm. Some of the people who pelted stones and injured the policemen were arrested.

Karwar additional SP Balakrishna and JD (S) leader and TMC president Inayatulla Shabandari also visited the spot and urged for peace.

The situation was brought under control, but tight police vigil was deployed to prevent further unrest.

    Mistake of school bus driver also why he has to the child across the road? if he has to then he should get down & help the child to cross the road also. if suddenly child came in between the road then how can a jeep driver avoid? child is child negligence of elders. if the children are small parents should go near the road to get them home from the bus. May the soul of innocent child rest in peace.

    Look at the road width this is not the place of accident prone area yet Bolero Driver knock down the innocent boy without any care for human being. All local people should help to trace down the Driver and he should be handed over to local people first before Police arrest them for necessary actions

    Implement a rule saying that “When children boarding or getting down from the bus, the school bus should give red lights till the children cross the road. At this time vehicles from all the sides must stop at least 20 feet away from the school bus” If anyone breaks the rule take action accordingly. I am sure we can save so many children’s life because they are small, we cannot make them understand. But we can make understand the “Drivers”.

    Dear Nagesh Nayakji, It is not that children are not advised how to cross roads. But, how mature do you think an 8 year old would be to cross a main arterial road with speeding traffic on both sides. Somebody should have escorted this toddler across the road, it is not his mistake!!

    Dear Nagesh Maam, You are right, children should be carefull while crossing, but they are chidren can make error of judjment, but we who drive the vehicale should take grater responsibilty while driving on the road. Should be more vigilent of pedestrain around us. For most of us once we sit on the driver seat all objects around us including humanbeings look like ants and we try to show our power on the vehicales engine.
    Driving ethics are very badly maintained. While giving driving lesons there is no emphasis is given on pedsetarin saftey. My hearfelt condolenses to the parents of the child.

    VERY VERY SAD NEWS.

    BUT CHILDRENS SHOULD WAIT , SHOULD SEE BOTH THE SIDES OF THE ROADS THEN SHOULD CROSS.

    I USED TO ADVICE ALL THE CHILDRENS ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF ROAD CROSSINGS IN HURRY.

    PARENTS & TEACHERS SHOULD WARN THME ON REGULAR BASIS.

    NOWADAYS NUMBER OF VEHICLES ARE MORE & ROADS ARE NOT MOTORABLE.
