Panaji, Feb 4: Emmaus, a counseling centre of the Carmelite Fathers organized a seminar for teachers at Feira Alta, Mapusa.
Frank Carvalho, who was a chief guest for the inaugural function shared his experienced as counselor and called on the teachers to be an instrument in shaping the behaviour of students. A Mapusa based psychiatrist and counselor Dr Peter Castelino delivered the key note address. He said, “Every child is unique and there is a need to treat a student in a individual manner. Most of us look at the other with our own frame of mind and our own expectation which is obstacle to identify the problems of children. We need to develop a strategy and know the strategy that we have developed in handling our students,” he added. He appealed to the teachers participants to be good identifiers, good counselors and be empathetic to sort out problems in students.

Br John Malvino Alfonso OCD, co-ordinator of the seminar welcomed the gathering and expressed the need to take into consideration the emotional needs of students. Fr Diogo Proença OCD, director of the centre proposed the vote of thanks for the inaugural ceremony.
Dr Simon Diniz, principal of Rosary College Navelim, a well known psychologist, speaking on the theme “Identifying the problems of Children”, focused on making the class vibrant and help the students to bloom. Stressing on the role of teachers, he explained with his own experience the behavioural and emotional problems of children. Merlyn Fernandes, a clinical psychologist explained and showed some techniques/skills in counseling and demonstrated the techniques.
Dr Walter De Sa, principal, St Xavier’s College appealed the participants to accompany the students for their all round development. Dr Walter spoke as a chief guest for the valedictory function of the one day seminar. Br John Malvino Alfonso OCD introduced the guests and welcomed the gathering. Fr Ajith Rodrigues OCD proposed the vote of thanks. The whole programme was compered by Debbie D’Souza, staff, Carmelite Seminary Mapusa.
