Udupi, Feb 4: Valakadu High School organized an innovative competition on reading books in order to create interest in reading among students, which was sponsored by alumnus Dr Satish Prabhu.
The competition involved reading five books and penning critiques on three books for students of Class V to Class X. Over 150 students participated in the competitions.
The prize distribution function was held at the school on Wednesday February 1, and Rs 500 each was awarded to 10 students in the high school division, Rs 500 each to 30 students in the primary division and Rs 100 each to all participants.
The school betterment committee vice-president M R Hegde, block education officer Ashok Kamat, alumni association president Amrut Shenoy, jurors - Teachers Training Institute Kannada teacher Raghavendra Herle, Valakadu School Kannada teacher Adve Ravindra Poojary, and committee members were present on the occasion.
The school head teacher B Nirmala welcomed the gathering. Teacher Roopa Rekha proposed the vote of thanks. Student Subramanya Upadhyaya compered the programme.
