Kundapur: Fire at Kharvikeri Threatens to Destroy Property

Kundapur, Feb 3: Dry grass, which had grown thickly in the compound of a rice mill located at Kharvikeri in the town on Thursday February 2 threatened to develop into a huge fire and destroy several houses located close by. It is gathered that the fire was ignited by sparks from an electric transformer after one of the cables got severed. The incident occurred in the afternoon.

The fire, which was small initially, spread like wildfire within minutes. Realizing that timely action is of utmost importance as the area has a large number of houses built very close to one another, local youth, Prakash Kharvi, Anand Sarang, Sudhakar Kharvi, and others, showed presence of mind and jumped into action. In addition to trying their level best to contain the fire from spreading, they also conveyed information to the fire brigade.

Before the fire brigade arrived, the youth had succeeded in dousing the fire. The timely effort by the youth brigade came in for lavish appreciation from the locals, who would otherwise have lost their houses and valuables, if the fire was not controlled in time.
