Puttur, Feb 2: The body of a woman found abandoned and stuffed into a drain at Amaitadka for Bhagyahole rivulet in Kenjala in Kombaru village across the Gundia-Subrahmanya state highway on Tuesday, has been identified. The body belongs to Khateejamma (28) from Alike in Tannirpantha village of Beltangady taluk.

Initially, the body had remained unidentified. Husband of Khateejamma, Abbas, her brother, and daughter, identified the body on the basis of denture and clothes found near the spot. After finding the body, the Kadaba police had taken up the case, and had sent the body to Mangalore after post mortem. Later, churidar, veil, and a white lungi were found to have been tied together and thrown into a bush about ten metres away from the spot where the lady’s body was found.

Khateejamma had gone missing under strange circumstances about 24 days back. Khateejamma, a resident of Alike, was mother of two children, and both of her children attend primary school. She had disappeared from her home all of a sudden on January 9. Glasses with left over tea, opened cupboards and clothes strewn all around gave the indication that she had been forcibly taken away. The family had, in its complaint filed in Punjalakatte station, alleged that three persons, who had come in a Maruti Omni van, had abducted Khateejamma when she was alone at home.

Uppinangady circle inspector of police, Jagadish, said that the policemen have been putting in all out efforts to find out and arrest the murderers.
