Beltangady, Feb 1: Thousands of people flocked Venoor in the taluk on Wednesday February 1, when Mahamastakabhisheka (ceremonial ablution) of Lord Bahubali’s statue atop Gommata Betta there was performed during the day.
The organizers had arranged for Mahamastakabhisheka during the day on Wednesday, after getting the nod of religious guides and Swamijis.
As is the age-old custom, Mastakabhisheka is never performed during the day at Karkala and Venoor. However, a deviation from past practice had been permitted in 2000, when daytime Mahamastakabhisheka was performed. This time too, this experiment evoked lot of interest among the devotees and the public. Thousands of devotees flocked Venoor to encash the rare opportunity of viewing the ceremonial ablution in daylight. They were in for a unique experience.
Dr Padmaprasad Ajila, president of the reception committee, said that viewing Mahamastakabhisheka under bright sunlight gives an altogether different feel.
Under the guidance of the Swamiji of Moodbidri, Mahamastakabhisheka was performed in the presence of various Jain sages, just like the night Mahamastakabisheka. Procedures connected with the ritual began at 7 am, and Mahamastakabhisheka, which commenced at 8 am, continued till 11 am. A number of devotees, who had reserved the privilege of pouring customary things and holy water on the statue, experienced a sense of fulfillment.
Various other programmes including Yaga Mandala Yantraradhana, Jalayatra procession, women's conference, religious meeting etc are being held today at Venoor. In the evening, cultural programme will be presented.
