Sullia, Jan 27: It is learnt that fraudsters who have been fleecing gullible people through lucrative claims beamed through internet, have turned to temple to make money. In the recent past, there have been instances in which people have received emails seeking financial assistance in the name of Lord Subrahmanya Temple in Subrahmanya in the taluk.
Through the mail, the sender claims that a number of Indian families on pilgrimage to Subrahmanya are going through hell in Nigeria, after getting stranded there because of a bomb blast on January 20, 2012.
It also says that the temple authorities have deputed their representatives to Nigeria for their rescue, and that thousands of dollars are required for treatment of these devotees. The mail also requests the religious devotees to send money in their or their family members’ name, assuring that they will get receipt for the same. It says if there is excess fund after adjustment towards rescue operation, the same would be credited to the temple account.
The temple sources termed the story as absolute bluff and confirmed that they have not sent anyone to Nigeria. The account mentioned in the email belongs to one Amit Gupta, and his account is said to be maintained in ICICI Bank New Delhi.
