Tokyo Marathon Winner Aryasova Stripped of Title for Doping

Tokyo, Jan 25 (IANS): Russian athlete Tatiana Aryasova has been stripped of her 2011 Tokyo Marathon title after she tested positive for a banned substance, organisers of the marathon confirmed.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Wednesday had also suspended Aryasova, who was found to have used hydroxyethyl starch (HES), a masking agent for endurance-boosting blood doping.

The Tokyo Marathon organisers have moved up Noriko Higuchi of Japan to first place. Aryasova finished the race in 2 hours, 27 minutes, 29 seconds while Higuchi clocked 2:28.49.

The IAAF also nullified all the competition results Aryasova has posted since the Tokyo Marathon that was held Feb 27.
