Karkala, Jan 25: Public works department minister, C M Udasi, said that the state government had called for tenders amounting to Rs 3,700 crore during this financial year for road development. He said that the government is aware that road facility paves way for overall progress of a region. He revealed that 1,362 km of road will get developed in 14 packages across the state.
He was speaking after laying foundation stone for the upgradation plan of the 28 km Padubidri-Karkala state highway being taken up under Asian Development Bank project.
Udasi said that tender has been called for concreting and widening of the Agumbe Ghat road at a cost of Rs 14 crore, and also that steps have been taken to turn Balebare Ghat stretch into a concrete road. The minister revealed that the plan to develop Shiradi Ghat road at a cost of Rs 135 crore needs the approval of the union government. He stressed that the state’s plan to concrete village roads needs support of the union government.
Udupi district in-charge minister, Dr V S Acharya, inaugurated the meeting. He also came up with a slew of development plans relating to roads that are before the government. MLA, H Gopal Bhandary, who presided over the meeting, requested the minister to lay concrete roads wherever necessary.
MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, zilla panchayat president, Katapadi Shankar Poojary, taluk panchayat president, Jayaram Salian, vice president, Ravindra Kumar, municipal president, Pratima Mohan, and others were present.
