Mangalore, Jan 23: Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai on Monday January 23 said that there have been various attempts to disturb peace in the society and spread hatred.
Referring to the alleged provocative speeches by Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat during the Hindu Samajotsava on Sunday January 22 which led to protest and lathi charge, he said Bhat will face the same situation which Mahendra Kumar faced earlier. Rai added that merely an FIR was not enough and a chargesheet must be filed against Dr Bhat and he must be arrested.
He was speaking at a protest organized in front of the DC’s office on Monday January 23 by the Bajpe Muslim Okkoota and pro-people union to condemn the alleged police atrocity on students of Ansar School, Bajpe on January 16.
Rai said that he was furious about the political colouring given to every incident by the BJP party leaders, and dared chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda to take action against Dr Bhat.
Mohammed Sharif, president of the Okkoota, welcomed the gathering and in his keynote address stressed that Bajpe police station sub inspector Dinakar Shetty should be suspended for his inhuman act of beating school children.
The issue was erection and shifting of a road speed breaker in Bajpe acquired political hues on January 16. The student protestors who were urging for the speed breaker were allegedly beaten up by Bajpe police station sub-inspector.
Addressing the gathering, Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain said that the government should take action against the sub-inspector as he was the key person responsible for the lathi charge. “He also assaulted the gram panchayath president and this was all politically backed. The recent incidents of ‘goondaism’ raise the doubt whether a government exists in the state. This issue of Bajpe will be brought up in the assembly meeting and pressure will be put to suspend the sub-inspector,” he said.
Later, the protestors submitted an appeal to the DC for proper action.
Congress leaders Vijaykumar Shetty, Mithun Rai, Bondala Jagannath Shetty, Ivan D’Souza, Mohiuddin Bava, Sucharitha Shetty, and former mayor Ashraf were present. Though it was a protest organized by the residents of Bajpe, there was a meager turn out till members of the KFD came in large numbers and participated.
