Udupi: Italy Shipwreck - Ajay Quadros Returns Home to Emotional Welcome

Udupi, Jan 21: Ajay Quadros (29), a native of Shirva here, who was among the 200 Indian survivors in the Italian cruise ship tragedy, returned home on Friday January 20 night to an emotional welcome.
He was received at the Bajpe Airport by his mother Leena Mathias, minister Krishna J Palemar and his friends from Shirva Yuvaka Mandala.
He was on duty on the ill-fated cruise ship Costa Concordia which capsized near Giglio port in Italy off Italia Tuscan shore last week.
Ajay is the son of Leena Mathias and Frederick Quadros from Shirva. Leena is a senior Congress leader. Ajay is unmarried.
Ajay has been working for Spain Dining Restaurant run by a concern called Costa Crociere for the last four years. He was on duty on the ship when it hit a rock on January 13 and sunk.
Out of seven persons from Karnataka who have survived the ordeal, Dinesh from B C Road and Kevin Fernandes from Karkala too have reached their homes, much to the elation of their respective families.
The Italian luxury liner was carrying more than 4,200 people when it ran aground on a reef off Giglio island in western Italy. More than 60 people were injured in the incident and six killed. There were 203 indians on board - 202 of whom were crew members and one was a passenger.
