Mangalore: MIFT Organizes Unique Khadi Art and Craft Expo

Mangalore, Jan 18: Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology organized Khadi Art and Craft Exhibition on Wednesday January 18.
Nanda Gopal, convener CIL, and former senior correspondent, Times of India inaugurated the function. Speaking on the occasion he said that ‘Khadi day’ should be celebrated every day. “We Indians still live in a phase of colonial hangover. We blindly follow the west whereas we have a wonderful tradition amidst us, he opined.
He said that wearing Khadi helps the rural people who spun khadi to earn their livelihood. He also said that there are several opportunities for today’s youth in the field of fashion. One has to grab the opportunity, if not he has to create it, he encouraged.
Chairman of MIFT College Dr Aroor Prasad Rao along with academic director M G Hegde and principal Shilpa Shetty were present. The exhibition was then kept open for public view the whole day. Art and craft prepared by the students won the appreciation of all the visitors gathered.
Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology was founded in the year 1996. It is the first degree college in South East Asia to introduce B.SC degree in Fashion Designing and the only college offering a degree course in Security and Detective Science.
Along with educational awareness and social development at MIFT students are trained to be successful in all spheres through various activities. For the last 13 years MIFT has been encouraging students to organize art and craft exhibition.
