Mangalore United Cricket Academy Opens Amidst Promises of New Ground

Mangalore, Jan 17: The inaugural programme of the Mangalore United Cricket Academy was held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on Tuesday January 17 at 10.30 am.
Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the academy. Speaking on the occasion he said that Indian cricket is of top rank and there is need for producing good cricket players from Dakshina Kannada district. Hence, a well-equipped cricket ground needs to be constructed in the district.
"Maximum financial help will be made available by Rajya Sabha fund for the cause, and with this a turf cricket ground will be built within city limits," he said.
State legistlative assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat presded over the programme. In his address he said that the government aims to construct a cricket ground by this year end and that he is holding talks with CM Sadananda Gowda to discuss the matter.
B A Moideen Bava, president of the academy welcomed the gathering. All trustees of Mangalore United Cricket Academy were present.
Directors of the Academy Sadananda Shetty, chairman, Sridevi Education Trust, B M Farooq, CMD, Fiza Group of Companies, Mohammed Kunhi, S S Nayak, chartered accountant, Manohar Amin, Mumtaz Ali, Ivan D’Souza, Mithun Rai, B M Hyder Ali among others were also present.
