Mangalore, Jan 17: The second of the 160 houses, being built for the poor by the diocese of Mangalore to mark the post-centenary silver jubilee celebrations of the diocese, was handed over to a family here on Monday January 16 at Guttar, Loretto.

Housing project coordinator and CODP director Fr Onil D'Souza handed over the key of the house to Christine Lobo, residents of St Peter Ward, Loretto. The house was given by Our Lady of Loretto Church, Loretto. The parish priest Fr. Cyprian Pinto unveiled the name plate of the house.

The Mangalore diocese will celebrate its 125th year on February 11 and 12. To mark the occasion, the diocese had undertaken the task of constructing 160 houses for the poor, and other such welfare works.

Our Lady of Loretto Church, pastoral council vice-president Hubart Lobo welcomed while the gurkar of the ward proposed the vote of thanks.

Holy mass was offered for the sick people in the premises of the house.

I had always reservations when people get converted to Christianity. But today I fully support this diocese of Mangalore for their unique contribution towards common mass even if they force them to convert. Owning a House in this difficult time really a dream comes true for those can’t afford to build a small hut even. May God Jesus give more strength and sources to this Diocese to continue in their sincere effort like this.
