Udupi, Jan 17: Both Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt and Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt on Tuesday January 17 stuck to their respective decisions and began their fast over the issue of non-inclusion of Puttige Swamiji in the upcoming Paraya rituals at Sode Mutt.
While Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji began fast at Lord Ananteshwara Temple, supported by a crowd of devotees, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji is going it alone at his Mutt.
It may be recalled that Pejavar Swamiji had expressed his disappointment at the allegations made by Puttige Swamiji of not putting in enough efforts to resolve the crisis arising out of not extending an invitation to the latter to the current Paryaya Darbar by Sode Mutt Swamiji. Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji has since withdrawn his remark, but has welcomed the decision of Pejavar Swamiji to undertake fast, which he claimed, was in support of his demand for recognition and respect.
Speaking to press persons, Puttige Mutt Swamiji, before beginning his fast today, threatened to turn his next Paryaya period into a festival for all the religions by inviting people from all the religions to his Darbar, if the present faceoff is not resolved amicably. He also said that the procession of his Paryaya period will entail religious heads from all the sects within Hinduism seated in palanquins.
With these statements, he has dropped hints that he will break further traditions of Srikrishna Mutt, if Sode Mutt Swamiji refuses to withdraw the unilateral embargo imposed on him by Sode Mutt Swamiji against his participation in Paryaya Darbar, ostensibly for breaking the traditions of the Mutt and crossing the seas.
