Mangalore, Jan 17: Samanvaya Trust Mangalore conferred its maiden 'Yuvakiran-2011' award on Joel Ivan Noronha, son of Ronald Noronha and Juliana Noronha of Siddakatte, Bantwal, for his contribution by way of several articles in Konkani to the YCS News bulletin 'Yuva Tare' from the last seven years.
'Yuvakiran-2011' award consists of a cheque for 5,000, a memento, citation, shawl, garland, fruits and flowers. John Alphonse and Leena Karkala, presently settled in the USA initiated this annual award through Samanvaya for the best budding talent in Konkani literature.
The Award was bestowed on Joel Noronha by Dr Ronald Cutinha, director of Samanvaya during the programme “Yuva Sangam 2012” held at Rosario Cathedral Hall, Pandeshwar on Sunday January 15 in the presence of Fr Stany Goveas, parish priest Rosario Church, Stephen Mendis of Institute of Western Technology, Fr Ronald D’Souza, director YCS and YSM, and Richard Alvares, editor of 'Yuva Tare', a youth magazine.
While the awardee thanked the YCS and Samanvaya officials for recognizing his talent, Fr Stany Goveas, Stephen Mendis and Dr Ronald Cutinha delivered encouraging messages to the youth. Kieth D’Souza, YCS president, Ferar welcomed the gathering. YCS director Fr Ronald D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and distributed mementos to those on the dais.
Jovita D’Souza of Ashok Nagar compered the programme. Vivel Pinto, YCS secretary of Bajpe and Josline Vas, regional president were present on the dais. Nearly 300 YCS members were present on the occasion.
