Mangalore, Jan 17: The coastal districts have, after several years, been enjoying colder weather than before. The minimum temperature in the city has been hovering around 21 degrees Celsius since the last some days, while the maximum has been pegged at 32 degree Celsius.
A number of people can be seen wearing woollen garments during early hours, a rare scene in the state's coast. The meteorological department officials have attributed this phenomenon to the absence of clouds.
The other districts in the state too are reeling under cold conditions. Madikeri at 4.8 degrees and Mysore at 7.7 degrees Celsius have recorded such low levels of temperature after a century. Bangalore too at 12 degrees, has registered coldest climate in winter after about 20 years.
The temperatures have fallen by an average of four degrees in Bijapur, eight in Raichur, seven in Chitrarurga and Kolar, five in Mandya, four in Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Gadag and Gulbarga, as compared to previous winter.
The meteorological department has predicted the present cold wave situation to continue for a few more days.
