Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat to continue; proposal for Mumbai extension under consideration

Udupi, Mar 18: Amid speculations about the cancellation of the Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, a request has been made to extend the service to Mumbai instead of discontinuing it.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and urged him to extend the Vande Bharat train to Mumbai rather than cancelling it due to low passenger occupancy.

Responding promptly, the minister directed officials to ensure that the train service is not discontinued and to take necessary steps for its extension to Mumbai.

Additionally, a report on the economic significance of Mangaluru and Udupi was presented to the minister, emphasizing the need to extend the train service to Mumbai. It was also requested that priority be given to introducing a sleeper Vande Bharat train between Mangaluru and Mumbai in the future.

Expressing gratitude to the minister for his attention and assurance of support, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary welcomed the decision.

    why minsiters are spending time on all of this . Railway officials should do capacity planning and have a road map as to how many trains and when they need to be added etc ....there are 500 buses operating everyday from udupi to mumbai one train can reduce it by 200 and reduce huge traffic and chaos

    If Madgaon Vandebaharath express is extended up to Mumbai it will serve as a good through which people of Udupi and Managluru can reach Mumbai as fast as possible with minimum delay It will be useful as many from Udupi are working at Mumbai now and it will increase economic stability of Udupi area A very good decision and hope it materialise for the people of Udupi Managaluru region

    I don't think railways will agree to the Mumbai extension. As far as I know, all Vandebharat trains return to the point of origin in the same day which will not be possible if extended to Mumbai. Mangalore Mumbai will require a Vandebharat sleeper type train which hopefully will be introduced. Mangalore-Madgaon VB was introduced only to show our previous coastal MPs actually did some job. Meanwhile our north Kerala people are trying to extend it to Kozhikode!!

    Even if current time table is maintained , Vande Bharat will reach Mumbai by 8pm same day. Very prudent decision as there are no day trains to Mumbai are available from Mangaluru.

    Yes it is possible but not this year I think . They have 3 contracts to prepare vande Bharat sleeper version . All of three only one (ICF partnership with BEML) showcased sleeper coaches and tested on track ( waiting certification from RDSO ) and all other are showcasing later this year or may be first quarter next year . ICF and BEML already prepared 1 sleeper version and 9 more are coming . If 1 sleeper version allotted Mangalore - Mumbai then it will helps. Hoping it happens this year

    Welcome decision.. Hope Konkan railway is merged with Indian Railways early .This will help doubling of tracks and increase in trains. Also Mangalore and Konkan railway is transferred to SW Railway.

    It is sad that there was a move to discontinue Vande Bharath Express between Mangaluru and Madgaon. I think the railway travellers of Mangaluru and Udupi should do a fair survey and find a suitable time table. Vis a vis to direct it to Mumbai probably the railways may point out to the availability of fast trains in the noon hours at Madgaon. Another alternative is to Bengaluru, but remodeling works at the stations and yards maybe a stumbling block presently. I remember travelling to Udupi (Manipal) in 2014 when there was this train to Madgaon around 8.30 am from MAQ with 20 new ICF coaches. Later I understand the coaches were reduced Hope the people of the region get better railway facilities.

    People had travelled by sitting in bus for about 20 hours, when there were no Volvo sleeper coaches. Sitting in train is comparably convenient.

    Those are semi sleeper seats. A normal human being cannot sit in chair car for 14 -15 hours.

    Good move! Let’s check which category of passengers has a low turnout and adjust the fare accordingly to encourage their travel. This way, the railways won’t take a hit, and taxpayers won’t bear the burden

    Good move, but when the occupancy is low between Mangalore and Bombay they will extend to New Delhi. It is a failure because of limited stops. The Mangalore - Margao intercity was good but stopped now, this train should be re-introduced it will make sense.

    Someone talking sense and some is listening with al ears open. It will be great if this train continues it's journey until Mumbai. Thank you Mr. Srinivas Poojary for the proposal, which makes sense It is a pretty good train, service on board is good, if extended from Mangalore to Mumbai, I am sure the passenger movement will do better. Especially now during upcoming summer holidays. Thus it need not be discontinued
