Tumkur, Jan 16: “The state government is committed to execute the controversial Netravati River Diversion Project,” said state Chief Minister (CM), D V Sadananda Gowda.
He was speaking to reporters during his visit participation in the 839th birth anniversary of Guru Siddarameshwara at Kerogody-Rangapur in Tiptur taluk on Sunday January 15. “There are numerous opinions, both for and against this project. Farmers from Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada are opposing it. We will make sincere efforts to implement the project by inviting farmers and people’s representatives from all the affected districts for discussion,” he said.
He revealed that the Yettina Hole project in Western Ghats will be initiated soon, and that a meeting of MLAs and MPs from Tumkur, Chitradurga, Kolar and Chikballapur districts will be convened within the next ten days in this respect. Noting that this is a part of Netravati River Diversion Project, he noted that a sum of Rs 200 crore has been earmarked in the budget for this project, and that this sum will be used soon.
He wanted the union government to intervene to break the deadlock created by the decision of LPG tankers to strike work. “If the centre acts with delay, there will shortage of cooking gas. This will give rise to unrest. We should not allow these things to happen,” he opined.
