Udupi, Jan 15: As a part of six-day 'Sapthotsava' the 'Three-chariot Festival' (Mooru Teru) was held with traditional pomp and gaiety on the Makara Sankranti day at Sri Krishna Mutt here on Saturday Januray 14.
It was on a 'Makara Sankranti' day, the exponent of Dwaita philosophy, Acharya Madhwa, installed the beautiful idol of Lord Krishna at Udupi nearly 800 years ago. To commemorate this, the "Sapthotsava" is held.
The three chariots or "rathas'' are drawn only during "Sapthotsava". The drawing of the three chariots is a spiritually enriching sight.
The chariots fest was conducted under the guidance of Sri Laxmivaratheerta Swamiji of Paryaya Shiroor Mutt.
A large number of devotees drew the three chariots chanting the name of the Lord. It is believed that those who get a 'darshan' of the deities in the 'rathas' get rid of their sins.
