Kasargod, Mar 1: In a landmark judgment, the Kasargod Fast Track Special Court has sentenced Victor Montero (43), a resident of Varkadi Uddambettu, to 133 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a six-year-old girl.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 4.5 lac, stating that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional 18 months of imprisonment.

The case was registered by the Manjeshwar police based on the incident, which occurred before September 10, 2021.

Although I am not questioning the length of the sentence -133 years for harassing a minor girl — my question is whether the judge has ever sentenced rapists, murderers, or other hardcore criminals who committed more severe crimes to such lengthy terms. If he has, were those sentences as long as this one? In my opinion, rapists and murderers deserve much harsher punishments than this convicted person. // The most ironic part is that if the convict fails to pay the Rs.4.5 lakh fine, he will serve an additional 18 months in prison. He is currently 43 years old, which means he would need to live another 133 years, making him 176 years old by the time his sentence ends. Why would he pay the fine unless the judge guarantees that Victor Monteiro will live that long? I would say it's a mockery of the law.
