New Delhi, Feb 21: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, advising him to self-reflect before blaming others, particularly the BSP chief, for political matters.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Mayawati accused the Congress of acting as the BJP’s “B Team” in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, indirectly helping the ruling party retain power.

Taking a sharp dig at Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati wrote in Hindi, “It is widely discussed that this time, the Congress contested the Delhi Assembly elections as BJP’s ‘B Team’, due to which the BJP returned to power. Otherwise, Congress' situation would not have been so poor that most of its candidates failed to even save their deposits.”
She further advised Rahul Gandhi to introspect before making statements against other leaders. “It would be better if the supreme leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, first looks into himself before pointing fingers at others, especially the BSP chief. This is my advice to him,” she wrote.
Mayawati’s remarks came a day after Rahul Gandhi expressed disappointment over the BSP’s refusal to join the INDIA bloc to fight against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
During his visit to Rae Bareli, Gandhi interacted with Dalit students, recalling the impact of BSP founder Kanshi Ram on Indian politics and how Mayawati built upon his legacy. However, he questioned her current political stance, saying,"I wanted her to fight alongside the INDIA bloc against the BJP, but for some reason, she did not. This was deeply disappointing. If all three parties had united, the BJP would never have won.”
Responding swiftly, Mayawati accused Congress of having a dual character and a casteist mindset. She wrote, "Wherever Congress is strong or in power, it harbours hostility and casteist attitudes towards BSP and its followers. But in states like UP, where it is weak, it misleads people by talking about an alliance with BSP. If this is not hypocrisy, then what is?"
Continuing her attack, Mayawati also had a word of caution for the BJP, particularly for Delhi’s new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta.
"The new BJP government in Delhi must fulfill all election promises, especially those related to public welfare and development. Otherwise, the BJP’s condition could become as bad as that of the Congress in the future," she warned.
Mayawati’s statements have once again intensified the political battle between the BSP, Congress, and BJP as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections draw closer.
