B'lore: CPI (M) to Protest on Jan 26 Against Caste Discrimination in Sri Krishna Mutt

Daijiworld Media Network—Bangalore (RD)

Bangalore, Jan 13: The CPI (M) has given a statewide call for a protest on Thursday January 26 against the discrimination practiced in dining arrangements in temples across the state and especially at Sri Krishna Mutt, Udupi.

The CPI (M) has alleged that despite India being democratic, the practice of having separate seating arrangements for elite Brahmins, general Brahmins, upper caste Hindus and Dalits in 250 temples across the state exists still. In Sri Krishna Mutt, the authorities practice separate dining arrangements for Madhwa Brahmins, non-Madhwa Brahmins, government officials / ministers / VIPs and general devotees.

The CPI (M) claimed that the age-old practice of lower caste people rolling over leftover food on plantain leaves, an illogical custom, came into existence, mainly due to the discrimination in the dining facility at various temples.

They party alleged that Swami Vishveshateerta of Pejavar Mutt, who is a staunch follower of Hinduism and a leader of the VHP, despite embarking on walkathons in Dalit colonies and professing equality among different castes does not follow his teachings at his worship centre.  The BJP-led state administration has been supporting the practice of caste system, by attempting to introduce the ‘Bhagavada Gita’ in the school curriculum.

Accordingly, a mega protest will be held outside the compound of Sri Krishna Mutt on Thursday January 26, and the CPI (M) urged progressive organizations, individuals, intellectuals, and progressive religious heads of different Mutts to partake in the protest.

Before sneaking and peeping into others house please try to see whether your house is in order. As per Wekipedia document caste discrmination is strongest in Roman Ctholic churches in South India due to mass conversion to the religion. There are seperate seats, communion cups, burial grounds and churches for the members of the lower castes especially in RC church.RC chirches are largely controlled by upper caste preists and nuns.Report says that more than 70% catholics are dalits but higher caste catholics comprising 30% control 90% of church adminstrative jobs.Out of 156 Catholic Bishops only 6 are from lower caste.Advise your Hindu friends about this also and help them to enrich their general knowledge level.

Me too support this. I discussed with several leaders earlier but no one ready to go against this system. I stopped having food served in the temple due to the same reason.

If we believe in God, then there should not be any upper class, untouchable or any other group. Humanity is first & all are human beings.
Do you get any Upper class or Brahmin's blood in blood bank when Brahmin's need it? Do this upper class people know who's blood is given to them during operations or during other emergencies? Then why in public places this difference.

I have seen some temple non-brahmin's has to wait until Brahmins finishes their meal.

How they visit restaurrants & eat in the same plate which is earlier used by several people & food cooked by non-brahmins !!
I am a hindu but I celebrate all religion festivals with my friends & visit all prayer places where ever allowed.

    Jaago...javano ..jaago........stop this for ever.

Yes, this kind of protest is inevitable, should have been done long ago. What I hear from my Hindu friends is seating facility is very discriminating. I wish a day to come soon all Hindus including Brahmins will eat together in temples soon.
