Beltangady, Jan 10: “Due emphasis should be given to creating employment opportunities in this competitive era besides undertaking research and presentation of experimental work in engineering colleges,” said state higher education minister Dr V S Acharya.
He was speaking at the signing of an MoU between SDM Engineering College and the state government, at Sannidi guesthouse, Dharmasthala, on Monday January 9.
“SDM Engineering College has been chosen for a special package of Rs 15 crore by the state government under the technical education grade reform programme as it was successful in two stages. It would be utilized for postgraduation studies, as well as research and development works at the college,” added Dr Acharya.
He also stressed the need to maintain excellence in technical education and advised the engineering students to emulate the ideals and professional excellence of Sir M Vishveshwarayya.
SDM Engineering College principal Dr S Mohan Kumar signed the MoU on behalf of SDM Education Society and state chief secretary Siddayya signed on behalf of the government.
SDM Education Society chairman Dr D Veerendra Heggade said that infrastructural facilities will be provided to SDM Group of Education Institutions, with due emphasis on research projects by students.
Technical education department director H U Talavar, Vishveshwarayya Technological University former vice chancellor Dr K Balaveera Reddy, Dr K Sudha Rao, Dr B Yasho Varma and Jinendra Prasad were present on the occasion.
