Udupi, Jan 9: Mangalore-based Tulunada Rakshana Vedike has urged the state labour commissioner in Bangalore and deputy commissioner to award compensation for an employee, a resident of Koteshwar, who was fatally injured in a recent blast while working in the refrigeration workshop at Bangalore where he was employed.
The critically injured employee is 23-year-old Ashfaq, son of Abdul Rehman, residing in Koteshwar, Kundapur. He was injured in a blast that occurred while he was working at Cooling Technique Refrigerator and Air Condition Factory, No 288, A S Pallya nearby, BTM Lay Out, Bannergatta, Bangalore, on Monday December 19 at 6.30 pm. Five workers were wounded in the blast. Ashfaq was initially admitted to Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, and was shifted to a private hospital here by his parents. Ashfaq now lies in a critical state at the hospital here, battling for his life.
Tulunada Rakshana Vedike informed Ashfaq’s employer about his state and sought hospital expenses, but the employer did not respond favourably. It urged the state labour officer to award workmen’s compensation and take legal action against the employer for not taking safety precautions at the work site.
Tulunada Rakshana Vedike founder president Yogish Shetty Jeppu, women’s convener Jyotika Jain, Nazeer Kundapur, Riyaz Kunjal, and other office-bearers were present on the occasion.
