Mangaluru, Jan 27: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru commemorated the 76th Republic Day. The chief guest Sandhya D Nayak, assistant professor, department of English unfurled the tricolour flag and in her address emphasized the significance of India's constitution and the sacrifices of freedom fighters. She highlighted the potential of India's youth as future leaders and urged students to embody qualities of justice, equality and liberty to create a fair society.
She encouraged the importance of protection of democracy and enjoyment of freedom and rights by all citizens. India being placed on the global map today is indeed a matter of pride as it is so rich in culture and traditions, worth emulating and spoke about the three key values one should inculcate within oneself. Those are the values of commitment, loyalty, and discipline, starting from home and extending to institutions and workplace and said that patriotism is carrying one's country in the heart, not just celebrating commemorative days.
Sharing her personal experiences of India's global reputation, she encouraged the youth to be the brand ambassadors of the nation. As India is developing by leaps and bounds, the young people are the one who has to contribute to carrying this legacy forward. In conclusion, she expressed the words said by Dr B R Ambedkar that ‘we should make our political democracy a social democracy’.
Following this, the Preamble of the Constitution was recited, symbolizing the cornerstone of our democratic principles, and everyone joined in unison to repeat it. The other dignitaries were Sr Dr M Vinora AC, PG coordinator, Shubharekha, registrar; who were escorted by the NCC cadets along with the ANOs of NCC Army and Air wing, Capt Gayathri BK and Flg Offr Dr Hithakshi B.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by NCC cadets. Thanmayee, II BA welcomed the gathering. The students of St Agnes Kannada Primary School captivated the audience with a mesmerizing patriotic dance performance. The programme concluded with expressions of gratitude and on a sweet note and completed with distribution of sweets to the gathering.
