Sullia, Jan 5: Block Congress president, M Venkappa Gowda, addressing a press conference here on Wednesday January 4, accused BJP of resorting to gimmicks of making unrelated allegations to regain the credibility it lost and loss of face it suffered because of the stone pelting incident on the police station here.
“The Chief Minister has ordered suspension of policemen because of the pressure brought on him by Rahstriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders, not on the basis of the departmental inquiry report,” he claimed. He demanded for the withdrawal of suspension orders of the policemen and cancellation of transfer orders of the superintendent of police. Failing compliance, he warned of organizing protest by party workers in front of the police station here, along with the wives of aggrieved policemen, who have threatened to hold dharna. Gowda demanded registration of cases under section 153 (A) of Indian Penal Code against Sangh Parivar leaders for delivering communally provocative speeches on this issue.
He questioned the relevance of the topic of Love Jihad, raised by Puttur MLA, while commenting on protest by the wives of policemen. “These women have come to streets against injustice they have suffered. How can other issues be relevant to them?” he wanted to know.
Congress leader, T M Shaid, speaking on the occasion, felt that it would be wrong to subject an entire community to criticism for the fault of one of two of their members. He accused the state government of total failure in protecting law and order in respect of the above incident.
Congress leaders, Dhananjaya Adpangaya, Samshuddin, Gokuldas, P A Mohammed and others were present at the press conference.
