Udupi, Jan 5: SEVA – (Service – Entertainment – Vision – Action) proved yet again its mettle in organizing quality entertainment programmes in and around Brahmavar with its annual entertainment bash 'Darbar-2012' that left an indelible impression among the audience. The programme held at the Makkala Mantapa at Brahmvar near here recently was a result of meticulous planning, dedicated preparation and professional performance.
Though it was SEVA’s evening, two sparkling stars across the Konkani horizon, Sangeet Samrat Henry D’Souza and melody queen Nephie Rod Pradhan, hogged the limelight after dishing out scintillating performance that left the audience spellbound.
The much-awaited evening started with Henry D’Souza’s foot-tapping number ‘Sangchem kitem hi’ sung by Henry himself. It was for the first time that Henry was performing in the Brahmavar vicinity and his first number of the evening was indication of the things to come. The audience’s wait to hear Nephie Rod too was fulfilled instantly as she was on stage with her first number of the evening ‘Kalliz Konnak Divchem’. As the evening wore on Henry and Nephie in the company of Gulf’s favourite voice Rony Byndoor and coastal belt’s most popular singer of recent times Harriet Braganza, Konkani’s Little Master Anthony Tauro and promising Rubina Furtado belted out hit numbers one after other that kept the audience glued to their seats to the end.
Despite being served with delicious cuisine of Konkani music with some popular and foot-tapping numbers, the audience were surely waiting for double dhamaka in the form of Henry’s evergreen numbers ‘Ami Dogi Sezara’ and ‘Ye Ye Katrina’. They were not disappointed either. It was Brahmavar’s very own Samson Sequeira who accompanied Henry and the duo had the enthusiastic spectators dashing to the dance floor as they belted out Ami Dogi Sezara. And when Henry and Nephie recreated the magic of yore by singing Ye Ye Katrina it seemed entire Brahmavar was literally dancing to the tunes Konkani’s finest number. ‘Rajan ani Prema’ song that was immortalized by Remo Fernandes and Alisha Chinai was sung melodiously by Anthony and Rubina, much to the appreciation of the large number of audience. Songs such as ‘Madhur Suvad’, ‘Swapna Sundari’, ‘Saad Tugeli’, ‘Chintnam Laram’, ‘Fotkiro Mog’, ‘Lavina’, ‘Shivtim Abolim’ etc received a loud and thunderous applause from the audience.
The most elegant dancers of Ocean Kids troupe were on Makkala Mantapa stage for the third successive year for the SEVA programme which in itself is an achievement. As always they lived up to their billing as coastal Karnataka’s top dance troupe. Their scintillating performances had the audience asking for more and for sure their contribution towards the success of the evening was huge.
Humour quotient of the evening was taken care by ‘Son of the Soil’ Raviprakash Gonsalves along with his witty and able partners Stephen Lewis, Anthony Barnes and Vivita D’Souza. Their subtle yet rib-tickling comedy proved that there is no dearth for talents in Brahmavar.
The other greatly anticipated performance of the evening was the body building show by Mr Karnataka Raghavendra Ganiga and members of Veera Maruti Gym Brahmavar. Again it was first-of-its-kind incorporation of such programme in the music show in the Brahmavar vicinity and the audience welcomed it with round of applause.
Sangeet Saamtat Henry D’Souza was honoured for his lifetime achievement and contribution to Konkani by SEVA Spirit. Accepting the honour, Henry said that he indeed felt privileged to receive such an honour in Brahmavar. He thanked SEVA for conferring him with lifetime achievement award. He was at his best at Darbar-2012 with quick wit and rich Konkani keeping the show on right track throughout. His compering came in for special applaud by the audience of Brahmavar.
