Mangalore: National Consumer Rights Day Held as Part of Mescom Week

Mangalore, Jan 1: ‘It is the duty of consumers to demand the services from the Government authorities and also receive enough service for the money one pays to buy any goods’, advised Vishnu Nayak, secretary, District Consumer’s Federation, here in Mangalore on Saturday December 31.

He  was addressing the gathering at the National Consumer Rights day programme held as a part of ‘Mescom Week’ organized by the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited. 

Speaking about the rights of the consumer, he informed that the law and Constitution of India gives us 10 rights wherein we have the right to demand if the services are not provided properly.

Hanumanth Kamath, president of Nagarika Hithrakshana Vedhike, Mangalore speaking said that even though Mangalore is known to be a city of literate people, they are the ones who are often fooled especially when it comes to buying flats and property.

The consumers rights are only limited to books and seldom are these rights used. As it was organized by Mescom, he mentioned that the people of the city are first to scold the line men or KB people whenever the power is cut short but they don’t raise their voices if they are given low quality services.

Jayaraj Pai, president of Small Industries Group and Vasudev MR, Mangalore Airport Director also spoke on the occasion.

After the speech, a session was held wherein interaction was used to bring forth complaints and suggestions from the representatives of various associations.

The event was compered by Majjappa, and Umesh Chandra, co-ordinating engineer proposed the vote of thanks.
