Udupi, Dec 31: The annual camp of NCC 21 Karnataka battalion for high school and college students is underway at St Mary’s Syrian (SMS) Pre-University College and English Medium School, Brahmavar, from Friday December 23 to Sunday January 1.
Over 397 NCC cadets from Kundapur, Basroor, Brahmavar, Nitte, Katpady, Shirva, Sringeri, Belman, Barkoor, Kallianpur, Karkala, Hiriyangady, and Gangolli are participating in the 10- day camp along with 25 NCC officers.
The camp aims at preparing NCC cadets for exams, personality development and leadership training, besides developing civic sense and community service.
The NCC cadets will be trained in march past, interpretation of maps, shooting, mock war and armaments. The trainees will be prepared for NCC certificate exams. Successful cadets will be chosen for the Republic Day parade.
Thirty-three cadets voluntarily donated their blood at the district hospital blood bank. Blood bank officer Dr Sharat Kumar explained the importance of blood donation and gave information on HIV.
Prashant Pai and others from the Art of Living, Brahmavar branch, delivered a special guest lecture on the importance of yoga in personality development from Monday December 26 to Thursday December 29. Harady Dr A V Baliga College principal Dr Sapna Ganesh spoke on teen’s issues on Tuesday December 27. Prabhat Kalkura of KMC Manipal spoke on disaster management and RTO Ravi Shankar spoke on traffic rules and road safety.
NCC group Mangalore commander Colonel Dinesh Nayakwade officially visited the training camp on Friday December 30.
Karnataka 21 battalion NCC Udupi commanding officer Colonel Susheel Gurung, Major G Balakrishna Shetty, deputy camp commandant Captain Prakash Rao, quarter master Captain N P Narayan Shetty, adjutant Captain Herald Monis, training officer Lieutenant Srimurti, safety officer and chief officer Arvind Kumar, and first officers Vivekanand and Karnik are involved in the success of the training camp.
Camp Commandant Colonel Susheel Gurung conveyed gratitude to OSC Education Institutions correspondent Fr Ramban G M Scaria, secretaries Albert D’Souza and Fr Lawrence D’Souza, chief secretary Joseph Suvares, SMS Pre-University College principal Professor K Narayanan, English Medium School principal Merida D’Almeida and teaching staff.
