Puttur, Dec 31: A high school girl student belonging to Adivasi Koraga community was found hanging giving an appearance of suicide, but due to certain suspicions of murder a youth has been taken into custody by the police for interrogation.
The deceased girl is Geetha (16), a ninth std student of Keyyur Government High School and daughter of Keyyur Devinagar Janatha Colony residents Chaniya Koraga and Angare, both of whom are physically challenged.
The body of Geetha was found hanging using her salwar stole at a half kilometer distance away from her school in a hilly region. On Thursday December 29, though Geetha had left home as usual to go to school she did not attend the school. Same day evening her body was found, with her school bag, books and a 4-page letter in an illegible handwriting lying nearby.
Several reasons have led the police to suspect murder. First, the handwriting in the letter was not Geetha’s. In the area where her body was found the grass and weeds were in a mess and also the dead body was touching the ground and the shawl through which the body was hanging was not properly tied to the tree branch. All these evidences have in a way confirmed that it was a murder and not suicide, but the police are investigating and trying to obtain more clues.
Based on the complaint registered by Geetha’s brother the police have taken into custody Devinagar resident Dileep and have inquired Geetha’s classmate Sajida and obtained certain information.
