Mangalore, Dec 29: Condemning the proposal to construct a fishmeal factory on a playground, M B Sadashiv, president, district JD(S) unit, residents of Kasba Bengre and people of surroundings areas staged a protest here in front of the DC’s office on Thursday December 29.
Addressing the protestors, Sadashiv explained that the project would harm the local people instead of benefiting them. "The factory will take away take away the playground, which is often used by students, children and the local youth," he said.
The construction of the fishmeal factory might also result in foul smell emanating in the entire region, warned Sadashiv.
"The project is unauthorized, though they claim that they have been given permission from the district administration, city corporation and environment departments," he alleged.
The local people have not been informed about the plans by Baraka Company to set up the fishmeal unit, he said.
After the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the DC to stop the proposed project.
