Bangalore, Dec 29: The high profile Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) headed by DIG Police Alok Kumar has stepped up combing operations in the Naxal affected areas in malnad districts to eliminate the anti-social elements.
The decision to step up the combing operations was taken in the light of series of Naxal attacks in different Naxal-infested areas of the malnad region, including the latest incident in which h Naxals killed Sadashiva Gowda, a bamboo basket weaver, in a thick forest in Thondalkatte near Naadpalu, about 70 km from Udupi, for informing the police about their movement.
Karnataka’s Home and Transport Minister R Ashok said the ANF has intensified combing operations in Udupi and other malnad districts to nab naxals.
It is yet to be ascertained as to who killed Sadashiva Gowda. The nature of murder would be known only after receiving a Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) report, the Minister said.
Gowda had gone missing for the last five days.
According to police reports, Gowda’s body was found under a tree in a sitting position and his hands were tied to the trunk.
There was a poster beside the body with a warning, ``right punishment will be given to the police informers- Maoist.”
Naxals have been attacking police informers and they killed Boja Shetty and Rajesh Shetty in 2008.
Ashok said the State Government is ready rehabilitate Naxals who are willing to join the social mainstream. He promised to give a surprise visit to Naxal infested areas soon, the Minister said.
