Bantwal, Dec 29: Miscreants set ablaze a Christmas crib erected by 30 Christian families at Thumbe Darkas, near Maripall, at about 2.45 am on Wednesday December 28.
A Christmas crib was set up on the land owned by Valerian Fernandes on Christmas Eve. When the neighbours, roused by the barking of dogs near the Christmas crib checked, they saw that the crib was burning.
The crib had been allegedly set alight by miscreants who had poured petrol on it. Empty bottles of petrol were found at the spot. The locals managed to extinguish the fire within a few minutes of the incident.
The community gathered in large numbers as the news spread like wild fire in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Bantwal circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni, and sub-inspector Shekar arrived at the spot. A case has been registered in this regard by Bantwal rural police.
The town’s former councilor Josephine D’Souza urged the police to arrest the miscreants.
ZP member Prakash Shetty Thumbe visited the spot and condemned the incident.
