Media Release
Mangalore, Dec 28: Funny anecdotes and experiences, Radhakka’s basket with 'chikkis', 'bend' and 'kadale', memories of thrashings and matching faces to names... it was a day filled with reminiscences for the batch of students who were together at Lady Hill School.
It was a mixed crowd of girls and boys who had started std 1 in 1971. Some had left school in between to go on to other schools, especially the boys, who left after the 5th std but, they were all classmates for some period of time and the bond that held all together was as strong as ever.
Held at Deepa Comforts in the city, the event brought in old students from far and near. While there was a big turnout of batchmates from in and around Mangalore, the well-planned and coordinated event spearheaded by Amitha Sequeira Prabhu, had old students who came long distances from Australia, USA and the Gulf countries, as well as other districts and states.
The day began with Vaikunt Prabhu and Bhavya Ponnappa welcoming the gathering to the reunion. It was followed by reciting the school anthem and singing all the well remembered school songs which brought back many fond memories.
Self introductions followed which gave a glimpse of how each individual had progressed. A few sang songs to entertain and jokes were shared. Memories of teachers and numerous incidents were relived. As in any other happy event, many games were conducted and prizes awarded for the same. The day included a scrumptious breakfast, lunch and tea.
The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sandhya Hegde and Francis Pereira.
The high point of the day was the decision to set up a corpus fund to donate to the school in the name of the batch. It was decided to go with the headmistress’ selection of meritorious and needy students to whom the scholarships would be given. The bond that was forged all those years ago seemed as strong as ever and it was a happy gathering that dispersed with old bonds renewed again, with a vow to meet again soon.
