Vancouver, Dec 26: Guardian Angels Church at Downtown Vancouver is run by the Discalced Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province of India. This parish is known for its salient features, as it is situated close to the Holy Rosary Cathedral and it is surrounded by high-rise buildings and in the midst of green woods.
This parish has a population of nearly 3000 people with 850 registered families. It’s location physical location is practically in the Centre of the city and facing right the beautiful English bay, just a 5 minutes’ walk to the shore.
This year’s Christmas celebration was marked by lights, stars, and an open air crib that is displayed on the roof of the Rectory. Fr Rudolf V. D'Souza OCD, the parish priest of the parish along with Fr Boniface D'Souza, the priest in residence prepared the congregation well ahead of time with decorations in the church, carol singing and lightings outside the Church made the celebration quite memorable one.
Soon after the Eucharistic celebration the Canadian Carmelites' Community website:cccocd.org was inaugurated. This website is making its debut in the Canadian social setting spreading Carmelite and Christian Spirituality uniting all the Carmelites, lay as well as religious, in the whole of Canada.
Fr Rudolf in his powerful homily delivered on the occasion insisted that one cannot celebrate Christmas without making someone in one's life happy, and that happiness could be anything like caring, guiding, inspiring and being generous towards the poor and the needy. The Church in this connection has been serving food to 300 people on Christmas at midday to all the homeless and poor in the locality.
