Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 28: Mangaluru International Airport has witnessed a remarkable year of growth and innovation starting January 1. The airport has achieved significant milestones, reflecting its commitment to enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.

In 2024, Mangaluru International Airport set new records in passenger and air traffic movements. October saw the highest ever passenger traffic for the fiscal year, with 202,892 passengers, including 138,902 domestic and 63,990 international travelers. This achievement underscores the airport's strategic importance in connecting Mangaluru to various destinations.

The airport's dedication to infrastructure development was recognized with the prestigious Build India Infra Award 2024 in the innovation category. The award was presented for the successful completion of a 2,450-meter runway recarpeting project, which involved a unique flexible overlay of asphalt on a rigid (concrete) runway. This project, completed in just 75 working days, significantly enhanced the safety and operational efficiency of the airport.

Mangaluru International Airport has also made strides in sustainability. The Airport has implemented several green initiatives, including energy-efficient lighting and waste management systems, contributing to a more sustainable aviation sector.

The airport has expanded its connectivity with new routes and increased flight frequencies. Air India Express introduced a Boeing 737-8 service connecting Chennai and Mangaluru via Bengaluru, enhancing travel options for passengers. Additionally, IndiGo has increased its direct flights to Chennai, further improving connectivity.

One of the standout achievements for MIA was being adjudged the best airport in the "under 5 million passenger category" at Wings India 2024, Asia's largest civil aviation exhibition. Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel presented this prestigious recognition. The Airport's impressive growth, handling 19,27,466 passengers in 2023, a 14.17% increase from the previous year, played a crucial role in securing this award.

In addition to this, MIA received the Platinum Award at the Apex India Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2023. This accolade highlights the airport's robust safety measures and its Vision 2025 of becoming the safest tabletop airport in India. The airport's dedication to safety is further demonstrated by its zero worksite-related incidents and comprehensive training programmes.

MIA has also made significant strides in enhancing passenger experience and convenience. The airport has steadily increased the number of food and beverage and retail outlets on its premises, ensuring a diverse range of options for travelers. The introduction of the MIA super app (Adani One), a customer relation management tool, has streamlined the resolution of online passenger grievances, further improving customer satisfaction.

As Mangaluru International Airport looks ahead to 202 5, it remains dedicated to providing exceptional service, ensuring passenger safety, and promoting sustainable practices, solidifying its position as a leading airport in the region.
