Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Dec 24: It is learnt that the chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat (ZP), Dr Vijay Prakash, has ordered cancellation of membership of Vasant Bernad, former president and current member of Halenagady gram panchayat (ZP) in the taluk. Bernad is facing charges of availing of a fake door number for a building illegally in his name by using the influence of his position in the GP.

It is said that Bernad, when he was the president of the GP, had obtained fake door number for constructing building in a site owned by Haleangady Amman Memorial Church, in an attempt to transfer the land in question to his name.

After the present panchayat administration took up investigation into the above issue, an attempt to assault the panchayat secretary had occurred. Through two separate resolutions passed in its sessions within a year, the panchayat had recommended to the ZP to conduct inquiry into the matter. At the same time, an individual, who had collected information about the incident through Right to Information Act, also had submitted a complaint to the ZP.
