Mangalore, Dec 23: The members of Students’ Federation of India (SFI), DK district committee organized an event named ‘Zilla Panchayath Chalo’ demanding to strengthen the government schools in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Manoj Vamanjoor, the district secretary, said that due to the unscientific and business oriented education system adopted by the state and central government, poor students are deprived of quality education.
Due to the policies of the English medium schools, residential schools are rising in numbers. Some are obtaining the permission to run Kannada medium schools, but continue to teach in English thereafter. Private schools are permitted to open very close to government schools thereby the government indirectly is supporting weakening of government Kannada medium schools. Lack of competence to fight with private English medium schools, government schools are facing the problem of closure, he pointed out.
The members demanded the government to withhold the order of closure of government Kannda medium schools. The schools which are already closed should be re opened. Unauthorized English medium schools should be closed.
Facilities like faculty, building, play ground, toilets, potable water, should be availed by the government in the Kannada medium schools, they urged. Nithin Kutthar, district president was also present on the occasion.
