Sullia Stone Pelting: Case Against Additional SP, 9 Other Policemen

Sullia, Dec 21: Relating to the brutality reportedly unleashed on BJP leaders arrested in connection with the recent stone pelting incident on the local police station, a case has been registered against ten police personnel, including the district additional superintendent of police (ASP), Prabhakar.
The case was registered under instructions from Pratap Reddy, inspector general of police (IGP), western range.
In addition to ASP, the then Sullia sub-inspector (SI) of police, Ravikumar, Kadaba SI, Paulpriya Kumar, Puttur rural SI, Anand, Kadaba police constable, Palanivelu, and his jeep driver, Kuriakose, Sullia policeman, Ramesh, and three plains-clothed policemen of Sullia police station have been shown as accused in the cases. A first information report on the case was also filed with the local court.
The accused have been charged with various offences under sections 323, 324, 504, and other sections of Indian Penal Code.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by town BJP leader, P K Umesh, who got admitted into Adarsha Hospital here for treatment of wounds he reportedly suffered on account of police torture.
District superintendent of police, Labhu Ram, visited Sullia in this connection on Tuesday evening under instructions from the IGP, and saw to it that the case was registered, through police circle inspector, Taranath.
